Shawn Mendes recently released a documentary on Netflix about his rise to fame, relationship with fellow celebrity Camilla Cabello, and his struggles during his journey to success, called “In Wonder.” Throughout the documentary, we learned the lessons that he had to go through and learn to be where he is today. It is always good to take the lessons and experiences of someone else and see how you can relate them to your life. This is where we will showcase the secrets to Shawn Mendes documentary “In Wonder.”

Secrets to “In Wonder”

Strong Support System

Towards the documentary we see Shawn speak about how he decided to write songs. He told his dad that he wanted to write songs. His dad replied asking if he has written a song. Shawn said he didn’t know where to start or he doesn’t know what to do. This is when his dad simply said, you need to write a song to become a songwriter. The simple lesson of just go do it and take action triggered that realization in Shawn that he just needs to start.

Throughout the process, when he realized he wants to become an artist and do this for a living, he asked his family about it. Not a single person went against him, they all said he should go for it. This shows how important a strong support system is. Many artists brag about not having anyone around them and it was a struggle to mentally believe in themselves. Whereas Shawn had a different upbringing, he had the support since day one which played a crucial part in his success. But overall, we can learn that no matter if you have the support system or not, it’s the act of taking action that many do not do. Without Shawn taking action, his support system would be useless. If you have a dream, just go take action, please.

The Power of Social Media

Time and time again we are seeing celebrities come from social media platforms. Famous names like David Dobrik, Logan & Jake Paul, and even Shawn Mendes. Uploading clips of himself singing and playing music to Vine and YouTube resulted in the eyes of more viewers. This grew to a small group fans which alternatively gave him the start of his career. I think many people underestimate the power of social media. It only takes one viral video to see the outcome of your future. In the documentary, Shawn said he was more nervous about posting a video online than performing in sold-out arenas. This shows that having the mental strength to put yourself out there can lead to your future career. So many people think what others will think of them, while we have Shawn just posting videos and now living our dreams. I am very glad Shawn had a start from social media because it proves that we can use this platform for a positive outcome.

The Power of Manifestation

Shawn Mendes shows us his manifestation journal where he wrote down what he wants in his life and how it all followed through. He kept writing about he can sing high with no tension. Although the most notable note was, “I will sell-out the Rogers Centre.” Then a day or two after he filled a page with, “I sold out the Rogers Centre.” He shows that he is a true believer in manifestation and how it has helped him in his career. Alone at nights he will get his journal and write down what comes to his mind and what he wants to achieve. This brings out the energy into the world and stimulates his mind to stay focused on his goal. We know manifestation is something that many well-known celebrities follow, and it is rejuvenating that we Shawn Mendes follows it as well, and more importantly, it worked for him.

Staying True to Yourself

From all of the success and fame, one of the most notable points in the documentary is when Shawn visits his hometown of Pickering, near Toronto, Canada. It shows that he misses the normal life of a human and that it is refreshing to just play sports with his friends and do normal people things without having to worry about this career. This scene shows that with all of the fame, he tries to not let his ego get in the way. He tries to focus on where he came from and that he should be grateful where he is in life now. Instead of complaining and stressing about famous people problems he wants to show that he is a normal person. Although, he worries if he shows that he his normal and not perfect then he will lose fans. This is the thin-line that Shawn wants to focus on and he is closing in being comfortable with showing who he truly is and believes the documentary is a great way to do just that!
